Aliko Dangote has filed plans to build a deep seaport in Olokola, Ogun State—about 100 km from his refinery and fertilizer complex in Lagos. The port aims to streamline the export of products, such as urea, other fertilizers, and liquefied natural gas. When operational, the seaport will compete with facilities in Lagos, including the recently launched Lekki Deep Sea Port. According to the billionaire, the project, which will be developed on a site he once abandoned due to regulatory hurdles that have now been resolved, will inspire other entrepreneurs to invest in Nigeria. Dangote also plans to construct pipelines from the Niger Delta to boost LNG exports and surpass the current output from Nigeria LNG. Additionally, he’s launching fuel distribution via 4,000 gas-powered trucks by August, despite criticism over monopolistic ambitions, which he denies.
