Nigeria is positioning itself to become Africa’s second commercial cloves producer, after Tanzania, as a new nationwide farming initiative prepares to enroll 74,000 farmers ahead of the 2026 wet season. The program, coordinated by the Cloves Producers Association, will span all 36 states and the FCT, supplying participants with improved seeds and inputs to cultivate half a hectare each. Designed to boost exports, earn foreign exchange, and create jobs—especially for youth and women—the initiative targets strong demand from food and pharmaceutical markets.
