Cameroon has signed an agreement with Nigeria’s Dangote Group and Lagos-based MRS Oil & Gas Company to secure supplies of refined petroleum products, as the country seeks to strengthen its fuel security. State-owned oil refiner Sonara said the agreement establishes a partnership intended to provide Cameroon with a stable and sustainable supply of petroleum products. The arrangement comes amid rising fuel costs linked to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Cameroon has depended entirely on imported refined petroleum products since 2019, when an explosion damaged its only refinery, forcing the facility to suspend operations. Sonara said a ceremony to formally launch the partnership had been postponed because of last-minute scheduling constraints involving Dangote Group President Aliko Dangote.
