Dangote Cargo Drives Nearly a Third of Nigerian Port Traffic

Real-Time Cargo Tracking in Nigeria | Travo.ng Logistics

Cargo associated with the Dangote Refinery accounted for an estimated 30.4% of Nigeria’s total port throughput during the first half of 2026, highlighting the facility’s growing importance to the country’s maritime sector. Figures from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) show that Nigerian ports handled 68.29 million metric tons of cargo between January and June, representing a 12.2% increase from the previous year. Lekki Port accounted for approximately 40% of national throughput, with refinery-related operations representing 76% of its cargo, equivalent to an estimated 20.76 million metric tons. Meanwhile, container traffic increased 10.3% to approximately 815,000 twenty-foot equivalent units, while outbound shipments rose 23.5% to 29.2 million metric tons. The data does not separate tankers from container ships or show how much growth the refinery drove. Nor has the authority disclosed how much revenue the refinery’s cargo generates.
